The majestic mountain playground at Grouse Mountain is a can’t miss on any legitimate Vancouver itinerary.
That said, it may not be automatically clear how to get to Grouse Mountain!
Let’s take a look at the options and see what is best for you.
⚠️ Warning ⚠️ – We’re now in high season. Lines for the gondola are long and you’ll likely have to wait several trips to get up – avoid this by booking no money down Grouse Mountain tickets in advance.
Getting to Grouse Mountain
The fastest way to get to Grouse Mountain is by driving your own car.
In perfect traffic conditions expect an 18-22 minute drive from downtown Vancouver (Georgia and Granville).
Simply get on W. Georgia Street and follow it all the way through Stanley Park, cross the Lions Gate Bridge, take the Marine Drive exit, and then take a left on Capilano Road.
From here it’s a simply matter of following the road up hill for about 10 minutes.
As always, I will use the W Georgia St @ Granville St stop since it’s the heart of the city – but with the bus I’m suggesting there are stops all throughout downtown.
You’ll need to grab Bus 246 (the Highland/Downtown route) and ride 14 stops until you get to the stop EB Ridgewood Dr @ Norcross Way.
From here you’ll need to grab bus 232 (Grouse Mountain) the rest of the way up – the total trip time is 40-50 minutes in optimal conditions.
Just a tip: never book your Grouse Mountain tickets around rush hour (3:00 pm to 6:00 pm) or the Lions Gate Bridge is going to slow you up! Expect waits of 45-60 minutes to cross.
Take control by reserving your entrance time in advance (early morning or late evening are best for photos, and smaller crowds):
Not booking in advance also runs the risk of waiting two or even three gondolas to get to the top as you wait in line for tickets. This could tack on 40 minutes to the journey.
Grouse Mountain is found in North Vancouver just 20 minutes north of downtown Vancouver. The address is 6400 Nancy Greene Way V7R 4K9.
How do you get to Grouse Mountain without a car?
You can get to Grouse Mountain without a car using transit from downtown Vancouver. Bus #246 (Highland) and bus #232 (Grouse Mountain) can be grabbed on Georgia Street and will get you there in 40 minutes.
Can I take the Seabus to Grouse Mountain?
The Seabus is a commuter vessel that runs every 15 minutes – and only takes you to the foot of North Vancouver – making you take bus #236 (Grouse Mountain) from bay #15 at the Lonsdale Quay.
I’m on a quest to answer every Vancouver question but it’s very possible I’ve missed something – so don’t be afraid to get me involved by writing in the comments below.
Naturally, I’m happy to give advice on how to get to Grouse from any point in the city.
