14 Best Hotels in Whistler for Every Budget

I counted all the Whistler hotels and I got to somewhere north of 150.

This should come as no surprise. With a population of just 12,000 and a 30,000 person strong peak visitor capacity, there’s plenty of people looking for beds.

So I came up with a Whistler hotel guide so you don’t come up empty handed.

Whether you’re simply in the market for a cheap room, heading on a family getaway, or embarking on a swanky couples retreat I’ve got the perfect spot for you to lay your head.

The Best Whistler Hotels

With an easy two hour trip from downtown Vancouver, Whistler gets 3 million visitors a year and this places a heavy burden on its hotel room capacity.

For this reason I recommend booking well in advance to secure a room that meets your needs as well as those of your pocket book.

This is absolutely paramount during the height of ski season.

Here’s a list of 14 of our favourite properties.

Furthermore, we’ve listed the best places to stay in Whistler at each price point. Everything from hostels and apartment rentals to five star hotels are covered like a nice dumping of champagne powder.

Whistler Village Hotels

The famed Village Stroll is chocked full of restaurants, nightlife and things to do.

If you’re looking to fully enjoy the après ski experience then a hotel right in the heart of the village should be at the top of your list.

And it’s just a two minute walk to the gondola.

Every room features a full kitchenette with chalet style roofs, gas fireplaces, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

If you don’t feel like cooking, there’s Umberto’s Trattoria operated by famed chef Umberto Menghi just downstairs.

The ski-in/ski-out access, on-site ski rentals and pass sales and extensive storage facilities make it one of the better Whistler hotels for die hard skiers and boarders.

But they’re also known for their exceptionally clean rooms and extremely high level of service and amenities. Each room has a private balcony and fireplace, where you can relax and watch your flat-screen satellite television.

3 Stars | 4319 Main Street | Area: Whistler Village

The Pinnacle Hotel is one of the better value properties located in Whistler Village. In spite of this, it’s still located just a ten minute walk from the base of the mountain.

Each room has a very homey feel, with fully equipped kitchens and dining rooms. This makes them great options for families or groups looking to save a little money by avoiding the oft-overpriced Village restaurants.

This Whistler lodging finds itself in a sweet spot of sorts: it’s just off the main village streets so you get a good night’s sleep, but still puts you within striking distance.

While the Four Seasons Resort is the only 5 star hotel that doesn’t offer ski-in/ski-out access, it is nonetheless the most highly reviewed of the luxury properties on the major booking sites.

Located near the Fairmont in the Upper Village, the resort is an 8 minute walk from the base of the Whistler-Blackcomb ski gondolas. However, they do offer a free village shuttle to remedy this issue.

The well-anointed rooms are simply immaculate, with huge bathrooms, double walk-in closets and the comfiest beds you’ll ever sleep on.

Whistler Hostels

If you haven’t noticed by now a hotel stay in Whistler isn’t exactly easy on the wallet. Luckily the area is home to a variety of budget hotels and hostels that ensure that a trip to Whistler is well within reach for travellers of all income brackets.

HI Whistler

The HI Whistler Hostel

2 Stars | 1035 Legacy Way | Area: Olympic Village

The Whistler area location of popular international chain Hostelling International is located 8 km South of Whistler near the Olympic Village.

While this shouldn’t be a problem if you have your own vehicle. However, you’ll be looking at a 20 minute ride into town on the #20 bus, or well over an hours walk if you don’t.

Like many HI locations, it lacks the social atmosphere typical of many hostels. But if you’re simply looking for a cheap bed then HI Whistler is more than sufficient.

It offers clean, secure, and affordable accommodation. And in a town as expensive as Whistler that’s nothing to sneeze at.

  • Dorm rooms
  • Free Wifi
  • Free Parking
  • Personal lockers
  • Shared kitchen/bbq/lounge
  • Coffee shop
  • Free billiards
  • Ski storage

2 Stars | 2124 Nordic Drive | Area: Creekside

If you feel that HI Whistler is a too far from town I’d suggest checking out this popular Creekside property. Its located just 3km from Whistler Village in the neighbourhood of Creekside.

Set in the midst of the wilderness, the Whistler Lodge Hostel feels more like a shared Alpine chalet than your typical backpackers hostel. But it’s still a short walk from Creekside’s numerous bars, restaurants and amenities.

The shared games room/lounge and kitchen facilities offers a more social atmosphere than that of HI Whistler. While the spotless dorm rooms contain pod-like beds that offer extra privacy compared with a typical bunk bed.

Pangea offers both single and double pods that vary in price depending on whether they’re front or side entry. Female only dorms are also available.

Having stayed in capsule hotels in Japan I can assure you that they’re vastly superior to hostels in terms of space, comfort and cleanliness. And this is coming from someone well over 6 feet tall.

Better yet, Pangea is located right in the heart of Whistler Village, unlike the other value options on our list. You’re just steps away from the gondola.

  • Paid parking ($19 per day)
  • Food offered from 07:00-01:00

The location is certainly more preferable to that of HI Whistler, with several food, grocery options nearby.

Each room offers balcony access, large windows and solid wooden beds, a nice change from the typical hostel squeakers.

The immaculate shared kitchen and living area contains a fireplace to relax in front of while you converse with your new friends. Then take the party to the communal hot tub, a luxury rarely seen in the world of hostels.

4 Stars | 2202 Gondola Way | Area: Creekside

Located a short walk from the Creekside Gondola, the First Tracks Lodge is another highly reviewed short-term apartment rental complex that is very similar in nature to Legends. In fact they’re operated by the same company.

The two properties are located immediately adjacent to each other near the base of Whistler Mountain. So you’ll receive the same ski-in/ski-out privileges at each location.
