Vancouver Airport to Tsawwassen: How Far Is It + Visit Tips ⛴️

If you’re standing in YVR arrivals with luggage in hand and a ferry ticket to Vancouver Island, you’re probably wondering: how far is Tsawwassen from Vancouver Airport?

It’s a good question – and one that often stumps people. The two aren’t exactly close, and the route isn’t as intuitive as you might expect.

Let me walk you through the answer (and share a few tips to make the trip smoother).

How Far Is Tsawwassen From Vancouver Airport?

Totally fair question – most visitors assume Tsawwassen is nearby since both spots are technically in “Greater Vancouver.”

But I’ll be honest: getting from YVR to the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal takes a bit of planning.

The good news? You’ve got options—and I’ve taken almost all of them myself.

⚠️  Warning ⚠️: The average attraction in Vancouver is booked 42 days in advance.

Especially in high season, booking online is the only way to avoid sellouts.

What I like about this route is the ferry itself. If you time it right and avoid peak hours, the ride over to Vancouver Island can be stunning and stress-free.

But first: let’s talk distance and how to close it fast.

YVR To Tsawwassen Distance & Time

The Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal is about 35 km (22 miles) from Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

That’s roughly 40–60 minutes by car, depending on traffic. Public transit takes a bit longer, usually 1.5 to 2 hours total.

Easiest Option for Victoria? Grab the all-in-one BC Ferries Connector combo ticket.

It’s a coach bus that picks you up at YVR or downtown Vancouver and drops you right at the ferry terminal. It’s timed to match ferry sailings – no guessing, no extra transfers.

My personal tip? Book the combo online in advance, especially in summer. It sells out.

Other Ways To Get There

🚖 Taxi or Uber: Expect to pay around $70–$90 from YVR to Tsawwassen. It’s direct but not cheap.

🚍 Public Transit: If you’re on a budget and don’t mind transfers, take the Canada Line SkyTrain to Bridgeport Station, then hop on Bus 620 to the ferry. The total trip is under $10 CAD. It’s the slowest route but fine if you’ve got time.

🚐 Car Rentals: If you’re doing a road trip through the Gulf Islands or Vancouver Island, renting at the airport makes sense. Just make sure your rental company allows ferry travel – some don’t.

When I went last month, I tried the public transit route out of curiosity.

It worked, but I had to wait 25 minutes at Bridgeport for the bus. So bring snacks and don’t cut it too close to your ferry sailing.
